Selection of decks of cards
Playing cards Marine myths. Artist Lev Lieberman. Imagine that you found yourself at a masquerade ball, given by one of the European crowned persons of the XVII century. in honor of the sea lord Poseidon. Of course, the entire court audience, all these duchesses and counts, barons and Viscountesses, hastened to appear in the overlord’s palace, dressed up with newts and Nereids, palemones, mermaids and hypocampuses, and in other suits appropriate for the occasion. It was these images that the artist Lev Liberman thought in creating the original layout of the Marine myths deck. To enhance the feeling of European antiquity, the author abandoned the tradition of mirror duplication of semi-figures of kings, queens and jacks, adopted over the past 1.5 centuries. On his picture cards, the figures, like on old playing cards, are not paired. To give greater decorativeness to the deck, the artist placed drawings on the fascia. So, for example, dozens are decorated with newts, nine are mermaids, eight are hypocampuses, and seven are dolphins, in a traditional graphic style for the New Age, but somewhat stylized. On the other fosks there are images of maskers, sirens and other inhabitants of the underwater world, and accessories on the marine theme. Jokers are traditional jesters, but in scaly camisoles and with newt tails. On the card shirts there is an image of a mascheron in the form of the head of Neptune framed by lion heads. Images are made in the style of colorized engraving. The deck brought to your attention is thematically unique. And, without any doubt, it will become an adornment of any collection of playing cards.
