Selection of decks of cards
Artist Nikolai Petrov.
The theme of the "Golden Ring" deck is Russian antiquity.
For sale there is a reprint.
According to Nikolai Petrov, the artist who developed the original layout of the Golden Ring, the images he imprinted on the front sides and shirts of cards are inspired by children's impressions of reading Russian folk tales and Pushkin's tales. In support of this, it is enough to look at the shirts of the cards, where in a manner reminiscent of I.Ya. Bilibina and Palekh miniature, depicting a girl sitting in the garden by the fountain, embroidering on the embroidery frame, with firebirds circling above her in the sky. Suits, as conceived by the artist, are tied to four cardinal points, which once again justifies the name of the deck. So the peaks correspond to the West of Russia, the worms to the South, the tambourines to the East, and the clubs to the Russian North. For more obviousness of this idea, stylized images of fragments of Old Russian architecture, with reference to the corresponding region, are placed in the background of maps - pictures. That is, the king, the queen and the jack of spades appear against the background of a detinet resembling the Pskov Kremlin, white-stone chambers of Chernigov or Kiev rise behind the representatives of the worm suit, the cathedrals of Veliky Novgorod got covered with snow, and the twisted domes behind the backs of diamonds symbolize the eastern outskirts of Ancient Russia. Jokers are buffoons with bowls of wine in their hands. Deck "Golden Ring" worthy continues the tradition of domestic manufacturers and appeal to Russian folklore and will undoubtedly take its rightful place in any collection of playing cards.
